PracticeIntake & KYC
Know your client before you act.
Verify identity, screen for sanctions and politically exposed persons, and keep the evidence, without asking clients to visit the office.

One intake queue
Every enquiry lands in one place.
Enquiries arrive from the website, phone, walk-ins or the AI receptionist and land in one intake queue for reception to triage. Client profiles hold the details the firm actually uses (contact people for organisations, GhanaPost digital addresses, next of kin and important dates), and optional sensitive details are only saved with the client’s recorded consent.
Due diligence without the paperwork
Clients verify on their phone in minutes. The firm keeps the record.
ID document
Clients photograph their Ghana Card, passport or licence.
Liveness
A short liveness check and face match on their phone.
AML screening
Sanctions, politically exposed persons and adverse media.
KYB
Company checks, with each director and owner verified.
People decide
Asem collects the evidence. Your firm makes the call.
A possible screening match goes to a person for review and alerts the managing partner. Asem never clears or rejects a client automatically. Compliance reports are archived with the client’s record.
Act 1044
Due diligence held per firm, as the law expects
Under Ghana’s Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044), each firm is responsible for its own customer due diligence, so verification results are held per firm. Read our AML & KYC guide.

Money controls
No client money moves until due diligence is approved
Due diligence is a step in matter intake, between the conflict check and the engagement letter. A matter can begin provisionally, but client-account movements stay locked until the check is approved.
In short
What is client due diligence for law firms?
Client due diligence means verifying who a client is (and, for companies, who owns and controls them) before acting, screening them for sanctions and politically exposed persons, understanding the purpose of the work, and keeping the evidence. Ghana’s Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044) requires it for specified legal work.

FAQ
Do clients need to come to the office for KYC?
No. Clients verify on their phone with their ID and a short liveness check. Staff can still record documents collected in person.
Who runs the identity checks?
Verification is run by Didit, our identity-verification provider, and the result is recorded against the client in your firm.
Can we verify companies?
Yes. KYB checks the company and its documents, and each director or beneficial owner completes their own identity check.
